Overview

OpenSUSE takes a similar approach to Edubuntu in that it is designed as an add-on CD that can easily be installed/applied to an existing OpenSUSE installation. However, like FedoraEDU it is very much in its infancy. The project pages are better organised however and it is clear that development is happening at a decent pace. A unique spin to the project is the inclusion of Sugar, the same desktop environment as the OLPC carries [21].

Advantages

They have just welcomed onboard ‘Nubae’, an experienced coder with these types of implementations.

They have a version ready and working

Sugar Window Manager may help this to be implemented for younger children

LTSP-Kiwi promises additional functionality such as image packaging

Disadvantages

Sugar is not a Window Manager especially suited to adults or more productive learning

Sugar may cause incompatibilities with apps traditionally designed for GNOME/KDE

Our deployment will not use many of the advantages that Kiwi LTSP supposedly bring

Relying on new forked projects like Kiwi LTSP could cause problems if these lag behind the main project
