Creating an Edubuntu virtual machine through VMware ESXi

This post will guide you through the process of creating a virtual machine onto which you are going to install Edubuntu. Creating VMs needs a small guide in itself as a mistake at this point can leave you scratching your head for a good few hours.

By this point you should have a functioning ESXi server. If you’re experiencing problems, then the main thing you’ll want to ensure is hardware compatibility. With ESXi being more of an enterprise product, built from a stripped back kernel, you will find it does not have support for many pieces of consumer hardware. That said, I am using an old Dell Optiplex GX20 as my demo rig, and have had no issues with it thus far.

I have compiled this guide as a PDF only, sorry folks expecting a blog post. I’ll try and structure them like that in future.
